DCNS will exhibit at Langkawi International Maritime & Aerospace Exhibition 2009 which will be held in Langkawi (Malaysia) from 1st to 5th December 2009.

DCNS is a major player on the European and world markets for value-added naval defence systems. As a naval prime contractor, shipbuilder and systems integrator, DCNS combines resources and expertise spanning the naval defence value chain and entire system lifecycles. DCNS delivers innovative solutions from integrated warships to strategic systems, equipment and services.

The DCNS stand showcases:

DCNS expertise in submarine design and construction, through the Scorpene medium-size submarines. Already chosen by the Malaysian Navy and other first rank navies, Scorpene submarines represents the state-of-the-art in submarine design and construction and benefits from the latest technologies developed for nuclear-powered classes operated by the French Navy, particularly as regards acoustic discretion and combat system performance. Excellent endurance makes the Scorpene one of the few medium-displacement designs suitable for extended ocean patrol duties. The modular design can also be readily tailored to each customer’s specific mission profiles and other requirements.

The Andrasta, a compact submarine designed to operate in coastal waters, a theatre of growing importance to all maritime nations. Being also a fearsome adversary in deep water, Andrasta combines a state-of-the-art design with stealth, agility and power. A direct descendant of the Scorpene, the Andrasta is remarkably effective in any underwater role in coastal waters that a client navy may wish to assign to it.

DCNS is drawing on 50 years’ experience as a designer and builder of nuclear-powered submarines to develop the new-generation SSN Barracuda combining the latest advances in acoustic discretion and nuclear propulsion. Barracuda nuclear-powered attack submarines (SSNs) is a key component of the French Navy’s force projection assets. This programme calls for the delivery of six nuclear-powered attack submarines (SSNs). The construction of the first and second Barracuda submarines started at the DCNS Cherbourg shipyard respectively in December 2007 and in June 2009. The Barracuda is one of the most important programmes for the renewal of France’s naval forces.

The innovative Gowind®, a new family of ocean-capable vessels designed by DCNS for all littoral and sea operations, Gowind® vessels are exceptional tools able to fulfil missions ranging from anti-piracy up to sea control and denial.

The FREMM multi-mission frigates programme combines the latest technologies developed by the DCNS group. These technological and engineering advances will make the FREMM frigates world leaders in their class. In October 2009, the French Minister confirmed to DCNS an order supplement for three new FREMM. This brings France’s total order to 11 vessels, scheduled for delivery from 2012 to 2022. In addition, 1 FREMM frigate is currently under construction for Morocco and Italy confirmed the order of 6 units, on a total of 10.

MATRICS (MAritime Traffic Intelligence and Coastal Surveillance) is a taylor-made solution to monitor and protect maritime borders up to exclusive economic zone (EEZ). This offer addresses civil and military administrations and other bodies contributing to government actions at sea.

DCNS also offers a full range of naval services, including through-life support (TLS), modernisations and training. DCNS is actively integrating e-maintenance into its guaranteed-availability TLS services. Internet technologies enable customer and service provider to share system status data and operating parameters in near-realtime. DCNS is also assessing the potential of state-of-the-art diagnostic and prognostic tools to further improve warship availability.

About DCNS
DCNS is a leading European player on the world market for naval defence systems. The Group designs, builds and supports surface ships, submarines and mission-critical systems and equipment incorporating the most advanced technologies. Drawing on its dedicated teams, proven expertise and extensive industrial resources, DCNS is also expanding into new markets in civil nuclear energy, marine renewable energy and naval and industrial services.
DCNS has won a contract awarded by France’s Department of Maritime Affairs (DAM*) to support the country’s CROSS** maritime search & rescue centres.

The aim of the contract is to improve the search & rescue (SAR) efficiency of the CROSS centres by analysing maritime safety & security (MSS) situations in real time. The proposed Marylin system will improve coordination between French MSS entities, including DAM, the navy, police and civil security forces and customs.

“Marylin will give CROSS personnel quicker access to analyses of all available data concerning each SAR situation. It will also help to improve coordination and the exchange of information between first and later responders. The ultimate aim is to monitor all situations faced by CROSS centres and respond as quickly and as appropriately as possible,” says Philippe Guevel, head of DCNS’s bids and combat system products team.

The proposed system is part of MATRICS, the DCNS Group’s broad suite of MSS solutions.

“Comprehensive MSS demands both extended surveillance and the rapid deployment of first responders. MATRICS (Maritime TRaffic Intelligence & Control of the Sea) solutions are scalable, evolvable and tailorable to the entire spectrum of MSS needs. They increase MSS efficiency and reduce the time it takes authorities to assess and respond to each situation by providing continuous surveillance and enhanced threat assessment as well as managing the distribution of information to responders,” adds Philippe Guevel.

This contract is a major success as it positions DCNS as a premier league player in information and security solutions.

DCNS project teams draw on a vast range of in-house skills and expertise in areas including information and security systems, operational information architectures and systems, command information systems and data network interoperability.

* DAM (Direction des Affaires Maritimes), or Department of Maritime Affairs, is part of the Directorate-General for Infrastructure, Transport and the Sea, itself part of the Ministry for Ecology, Energy, Sustainable Development and Regional Planning
** CROSS (Centres Régionaux Opérationnels de Surveillance et de Sauvetage) or Regional Operational Monitoring and Rescue Centres

DCNS will exhibit at Expomil 2009 which will be held in Bucharest (Romania) from 11 to 14 November 2009.

DCNS surface combatants and submarines are designed to be used and operated under close political control, in conjunction with allied navies as part of joint and allied forces and for a wide range of missions.

The DCNS stand showcases:

The innovative Gowind®: a new family of ocean-capable vessels designed by DCNS for all littoral and sea operations. Gowind® vessels are exceptional tools able to fulfil missions ranging from anti-piracy up to sea control and denial.
-

The FREMM multi-mission frigates programme combines the latest technologies developed by the DCNS group. These technological and engineering advances will make the FREMM frigates world leaders in their class. France and Italy have already ordered a first batch and Morocco has chosen this frigate to equip its Royal Navy. DCNS has just signed an additional order for three new vessels under the European FREMM multimission frigate programme. This brings France’s total order to 11 vessels, scheduled for delivery from 2012 to 2022. The first of them, « Aquitaine », will be delivered in 2012.
-

DCNS will showcase its expertise in submarine design and construction, through the Scorpene medium-size submarines. Already chosen by first rank navies, Scorpene submarines represents the state of the art in submarine design and construction and benefits from the latest technologies developed for nuclear-powered classes operated by the French Navy, particularly as regards acoustic discretion and combat system performance. The modular design can also be readily tailored to each customer’s specific mission profiles and other requirements.
-

DCNS has developed the SADA automatic deck landing and take-off system. SADA takes less than 2 minutes to enable a vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) UAV on a moving flight deck up to sea state 5. SADA uses an infrared sensor in order to track accurately the UAV while generating flight commands to adjust the trajectory of the UAV. Tracking accuracy is 30 cm which is far better than the one achieved by GPS-only systems. Overall safety and reliability are thus assured. SADA features an open architecture and can be readily and unobtrusively integrated with any VTOL UAV and any type of ship.
-

SETIS is a multipurpose integrated combat system for high-intensity naval operations. It manages anti-surface, anti-air and anti-submarine warfare and can be upgraded to meet evolving requirements. SETIS combines large range of sensors and weapons to carry out deep-strike, land-attack, aircraft management and other missions. The capabilities of SETIS combat systems hinge on those of the fully integrated combat management system (CMS) controlling all system functions.
-

In addition, DCNS has a solid experience in the field of refurbishment and upgrade of vessels and has delivered some of the world’s most advanced systems to several Navies around the world:
-

MATRICS (MAritime Traffic Intelligence and Coastal Surveillance) is a taylor-made solution to monitor and protect maritime borders up to exclusive economic zone (EEZ). This offer is intended for civil and military administrations and other bodies contributing to government actions at sea.
-

Sylver® modules on surface combatants serve as both safe storage silos and vertical launchers. The upper portion protects the missiles against environmental conditions, shock and vibration as well as projectiles and small-calibre bullets. DCNS completed the 100th Sylver® vertical missile launcher last September. The Sylver® A35, the latest addition to the family, can accommodate missiles up to 3.5 m long, specifically, to date, the VL Mica from MBDA and the VT1 from Thales.
-

The Formidable-Class Frigates Programme: DCNS was contracted back in 2000 to build six Formidable-Class Frigates as part of the New Frigate Programme, which was outlined by Singapore’s Ministry of Defence through the Defence and Science Technology Agency (DSTA). The design of the Singapore Formidable-Class Frigates is custom made by DCNS to respond to the RSN needs. They are highly capable multi-mission platforms, with significant anti-air, anti-surface and anti-submarine warfare capability, augmented by a 10 Tonnes class helicopter. These Frigates are also very stealthy platforms as shaped for a reduced radar cross-section.

The innovative Gowind®, a new family of ocean-capable vessels designed by DCNS for all littoral and sea operations, Gowind® vessels are exceptional tools able to fulfil missions ranging from anti-piracy up to sea control and denial.

Shore-based training centre: DCNS’ shore-based submarine training centre comprises of a set of interconnected simulators arranged to represent a full-scale model of a submarine’s control area. The aim is to give both initial and advanced training to an entire crew in submarine operations and procedures. The centre can test the crew’s response to malfunctions, incidents and accidents as their training advances and throughout their time at the centre.

Building on its expertise as prime contractor for the French Navy, DCNS offers evolvable combat solutions responding to all fields of naval warfare and supporting multiple equipment configurations to address all customer needs in terms of mission, ships and environment. DCNS is also providing solutions for combat system modernisation, as well as cooperative engagement and network centric warfare.
