Are Gen Y misunderstood?

THEY are lazy, narcissistic and demanding. According to a recent study by the Tripartite Alliance for Fair Employment Practices, Gen Y employees (those born in the 1980s and 1990s) are the hardest to work with.

However, some employers did speak out against this stereotype. ‘Independent’, ‘tech savvy’ and ‘motivated’ were some of the strengths they highlighted of Gen Y-ers.

Sonya Madeira Stamp, Managing Partner of Rice Communications, found that Gen Y workers like to take ownership of a project.

According to her, they want to feel as though what they are doing has value, and that they are able to take credit for their work: 50 per cent of her employees are Gen Y-ers.
