The Big Apple
New York has always fascinated me. The Broadway shows, Times Square, Empire State Building, Rockefeller centre, Statue of Liberty, Grand Central Terminal and the shopping.
My previous job as a cabin crew with SIA gave me the opportunity to see the world. I traveled to the most exotic locations such as Cairo where the magnificent pyramids are still a breathtaking view no matter how many times you have seen them, Istanbul with its palaces and etc. But of all the places that I have been to, New York has always been a favorite.
I still remember my first trip to New York. It was autumn. I didn’t get to go to Central Park to see the leaves falling but I did so after many trips to the city soon after. What I vividly remember about New York is that, sirens that go on throughout the night. This is something that I will always miss about the city. There’s so much to do and see in New York.
As a flying crew I was flying to New York once every 2 months. After a 24-hour direct flight from Singapore to NYC, I would be tired and jetlagged but as soon as the captain announced that we’d arrived at Newark Airport, my heart always skipped a beat!
I have always loved performing arts. The one thing that I never let pass in New York was to watch Broadway shows. I remember queuing in cold windy winter at the TKTS booth to get cheap Broadway tickets! Well it was worth the wait! And I remember waiting in line with my Bolivian + German Captain to watch “Rock of Ages”. We had so much of fun. Not to mention that he was a one good-looking man who actually wore leather jacket and looked good in it. Sadly he was my dad’s age! L
However our trip back to Singapore was cut short – but that’s another story. I miss New York. I will always do.
