Members of the mobile marketing ecosystem Vote AdMob as Best Mobile Ad Network in Asia Region

Singapore. April 22, 2010 – AdMob, one of the world’s largest and fastest growing mobile advertising networks, was voted the Best Mobile Ad Network at the Mobile Marketing Association Forum Asia in Singapore on April 15, 2010. Representatives from five mobile advertising companies in the region competed in front of brands and agencies as well as operators, publishers, technology providers and other members of the mobile ecosystem. AdMob won by a wide majority, with 52 percent of the live votes from the floor.

“We’re delighted that AdMob has been recognized as the best mobile ad network among its peers in the region. AdMob has found success in Asia through innovation, sophisticated targeting, unmatched scale and most importantly, simplicity in our approach,” said Jeff Merkel, Managing Director – Asia Pacific and Latin America at AdMob. “It was a well-fought pitch among colleagues and the competition is a great affirmation that the industry is continuing to grow.”

AdMob was represented by Christian H. Cadeo, Head of Brand Advertising, Asia Pacific, who took home the much-coveted iPad on offer. “As an advertising network with wide reach, AdMob conducts ongoing research that we publish in a monthly mobile metrics report. Using region-specific metrics, we focused on demonstrating actionable insights to help brands target the right consumer demographic through their campaigns,” said Cadeo.

Interesting highlights on the Singapore market from AdMob’s winning pitch included:

  1. iPhone is the key driver of mobile data usage. In Singapore, an average of 30 million total ad impressions were recorded each month in 2009 till November when the iPhone was available exclusively from SingTel. When the iPhone was available to M1 and Starhub users in mid-December 2009, the figure recorded almost doubled by the end of the month. In January 2010, the first full month when all the mobile operators offered the iPhone, AdMob’s recorded ad impressions jumped by more than 100 percent.
  2. Majority of mobile data traffic comes from Wi-Fi as data access becomes increasingly ubiquitous in Singapore. Ad requests by source: Wi-Fi: 70,000,000; StarHub: 17,000,000; SingTel: 12,000,000; M1: 5,000,000.
  3. More than 107 million ad impressions recorded on the AdMob network in Singapore in March 2010. In a country with a population of only about five million owning seven million mobile phones, there is an average of more than 20 ad impressions per person.

AdMob participated in the annual Mobile Marketing Association Forum (MMAF), held at the Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel from April 13-15, 2010. As a returning participant, AdMob aims to broaden the perspectives of brands and agencies toward mobile advertising and to educate advertisers and brand owners on the use of mobile data as a marketing tool.
